On Wednesday the 2nd of October 2019, the TY group participated in an 8km obstacle course in Wicklow called “Hell and Back”. The course was full of tough challenges such as walking through bog, trekking through a forest while our feet squelched from the ice bath we had to endure, and sliding and slipping through the muddy terrain. At one point I was so tired, and all I could think about was crawling into my bed. The one thing that really kept me going was my classmates, we all helps each other to cross the finish line together, and we did. One of the first obstacles was a big wall which you had to climb over. I’m 5’3, so i found climbing this quite hard, but students from the class took it upon themselves to anchor themselves at the top and hoist up their fellow classmates, which I found incredibly kind and showed teamwork. This tactic of staying together as a group and helping each other carried on throughout the race, not only displayed by students of LCSS, but the other schools who participated in the race too. I remember somewhere around the 4K mark, a girl from a different school was stuck in the mud, so a group of us from all different schools came together to help her out. While I found the race mentally and physically challenging, it was also nice as people that I wouldn’t usually talk to from my class began to strike up conversations, sharing how cold we were and laughing. At the last obstacle, we had to climb an extremely high wall, which required a lot of strength and energy ( which we didn’t have ) but we all helped each the over. Then we all crossed the finish line together and slid down the slide, after throwing water at each other :)
